November 2025

As frost settles into the river valley and winter arrives, construction crews have officially wrapped up for the 2025 season at the Edmonton Bike Park. It’s been a huge year for progress — and thanks to our volunteers, builders, funders, and partners, Edmonton’s first dedicated mountain-bike park is no longer a plan — it’s a place taking shape.

🚴‍♂️ Two Flow Trails Opening Soon

In the coming weeks, riders will get their first taste of the new park with the opening of two flow trails — Won’t Die and Cooper’s Hawk.

Cooper's Hawk-Fly Through

Final City inspections have occurred and approvals are pending, and we’re also waiting for the ground to fully freeze before opening. Because these trails are freshly built and reworked, they’re especially sensitive to moisture — so please stay off them until officially opened to help protect the new surfaces.

🟢 Won't Die

Won’t Die is the original trail in this area, freshly re-cut as a green-rated, downhill-only flow line designed for all skill levels. Running smoother and more sustainable than ever, it’s a nod to the park’s roots and a glimpse of what’s to come.

🟦 Cooper's Hawk

Cooper’s Hawk is an entirely new trail that starts alongside Won’t Die before diving through the stunning new helix bridge structure and branching off to a unique finish further down the slope. A temporary return route will guide riders safely through the construction zone and back to the paved multi-use path — which must be used as the uphill return route.

🚧Please remember that the rest of the bike park remains closed and fenced off as an active construction site.

🏗️ A Massive Season of Progress

Since breaking ground in August, the site has transformed dramatically. Two flow trails — shaped, packed, and ready to ride — are now open, offering a first look at the park’s progressive design that balances approachability with flow and challenge.

Behind the fencing, major work advanced on the dirt-jump zone, skills area, and the park’s signature wooden features — including the wall ride, whale tail, and the trio of drop decks (black, blue, and green) that will anchor the jump lines once the park opens. These features showcase the diversity and progression built into the park’s layout, giving riders of every level a place to grow their skills.

🙌 260 Volunteers | 2500 Hours

This project simply wouldn’t exist without Edmonton’s trail community. Since the start of construction, 260 unique volunteers have stepped up to contribute an incredible 2498 hours across 543 individual shifts — from weekday dig crews to weekend shape teams. That’s almost 2,500 hours of sweat, teamwork, and commitment to turning a vision into reality.

Every one of those hours mattered. Volunteers helped dig drainage channels, shape berms, move dirt, and smooth out lines. They loaded and unloaded tools, kept the machines moving, packed and raked in the final weeks, and even showed up on frosty mornings to push the park a little closer to completion. Many came out multiple times, bringing friends, family, and new riders along to help.

Together, our volunteers:

  • Helped shape and finish the first two flow trails

  • Supported machine crews with hand work, cleanup, and finishing touches

  • Packed, raked, and refined surfaces right up until freeze-up

  • Showed up in all conditions — sunshine, rain, wind, and snow — with smiles and good vibes

Their collective effort has built more than trail; it’s built ownership and pride across Edmonton’s entire riding community. You’ve proven once again that Edmonton doesn’t just ride trails — we build them.

🧰 Project Partners & Supporters

We’re incredibly grateful to the businesses and organizations who stepped up with expertise, materials, and professional support to make this first-year build possible:

Construction & Project Partners

  • Peak Play Sales Inc. – general contractor and trail-building lead for the flow trails

  • Cabin Works Contracting Ltd. – jump lines, wooden features, and recreation project support

  • TerraPro Inc. – supplied dirt and trucking at cost, and handled the removal of the organic top layer to prepare the site

  • JR Paine & Associates Ltd. – engineering and site support for key structural and drainage components

  • United Rentals of Canada Inc. – provided rental equipment, including the skid steer used throughout construction

  • D3 Carpentry Ltd. – construction of the park’s signature wooden helix feature

  • Arthouse Residential Inc. – design of the helix and green drop deck

  • Prime Fasteners Ltd. – supplied GRK lag screws for park features at a significant discount to support the build

Environmental & Planning Support

  • Basin Environmental Ltd. – environmental consulting and monitoring services

  • Fiera Biological Consulting Ltd. – ecological and planning expertise helping integrate the park within the river valley

🏛️ Major Public Funders

This project is possible thanks to major public investment in active living and river-valley recreation:

  • Government of Alberta – Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) Grant

  • City of Edmonton – Recreational Partner Facility Investment Program (RPFIP) Grant

Their support, along with private donations and corporate sponsorships, brought the project to fully funded status and helped get shovels in the ground in 2025.

🎃 A Spooky Finish to the Season

We closed out October in true Halloween fashion — with costumes, pumpkins, and ghostly good vibes on site. Even as temperatures dropped and frost crept into the dirt, the stoke stayed high!

🧭 What’s Next

The site will remain closed through winter while the ground freezes and thaws. Early spring 2026 will bring:

  • Final shaping and compaction on the dirt jumps

  • Completion of the skills area and advanced features (including the whale tail and wall ride)

  • Start and completion of the asphalt pump track.

  • Signage, fencing, and safety installations

  • Landscaping and finishing ahead of the grand opening

  • Park Amenities feature including picnic space, shelters, and rest areas and other final touches.

  • **Grand Opening planning. Have some ideas? Let us know. We are aiming towards an early summer 2026 opening.

We’ll keep sharing winter updates and behind-the-scenes looks at signage, operations, and volunteer planning as the project moves into its final stretch.

❤️ Thank You, Edmonton

The Edmonton Bike Park is powered by community — volunteers, donors, sponsors, professional partners, and our public funders at the City of Edmonton and the Province of Alberta.

Together, we’ve turned years of planning into real, rideable progress.
