🚜 Bike Park Progress Update

After hundreds of hours of planning, preparation, and correspondence, the day has finally come. Edmonton’s Bike Park is under construction, and things are moving lightning-fast since we received our Development Permit last week.

👥 Meet the Bike Park Team

Edmonton Mountain Bike Alliance (EMBA) At the heart of this project is EMBA, the volunteer-run nonprofit that has been maintaining and advocating for Edmonton’s singletrack network for nearly two decades. EMBA has carried the Bike Park from idea to reality — fundraising, securing approvals, coordinating volunteers, and keeping the dream alive.

🚴 Bike Park Committee

Joe Yurkovich — EMBA President Provides leadership and legal expertise, guiding EMBA through years of approvals and governance to bring the Bike Park to life.

Josh Nowochin — Trails & Tools, Bike Park Committee Oversees EMBA’s tool inventory and leads numerous trail days, enabling volunteers to be effective and well-equipped on the ground.

Matt Edwards — Communications, IT & Bike Park Committee Leads communications, fundraising, and project coordination, ensuring the Bike Park vision is shared, supported, and delivered.

🛠 Professional Build Team

Peak Play General Contractor / Prime, Serving as the project’s general contractor, Peak Play brings extensive experience in recreation and playground construction.

Jesse Soneff, their site lead, oversees day-to-day operations and ensures the build stays on track.

Cabin Works - Jump Park & Feature Specialists in shaping dirt and constructing progressive wooden features, Cabin Works is leading the creation of the jump park elements that will define the Bike Park’s character.

Common Ground Trails Specialists in asphalt pump tracks, scheduled to build Edmonton’s first paved pump track in spring 2026.

🌐 Consultants & Partners

Environmental Consultants Guided the project through ecological reviews and approvals, ensuring construction is balanced with care for the River Valley environment.

City of Edmonton Staff Worked alongside EMBA to align planning, bylaws, and permits, helping navigate the complex processes required to break ground.

Industry Advisors & Community Partners Provided expertise, feedback, and ongoing support, strengthening the project with insights from across the riding and recreation community.

🛠 What’s Happening on the Ground

Jump Park Cabin Works has machines on site, carving out Edmonton’s first progressive jump lines. Each line is designed to build riders’ confidence, starting with approachable beginner jumps and scaling up to larger, more advanced features. Alongside the dirt work, Cabin Works is leading the construction of signature wooden features — elements that will become iconic landmarks in the River Valley and a highlight of the park experience.

Flow Trails Our volunteer crews have been hard at work cutting in new connectors, stacking berms, and constructing retaining walls to create sustainable, rideable lines. These trails aren’t just paths through the forest — they’re carefully contoured singletrack, built to flow with the landscape and give riders the kind of playful, progressive riding Edmonton has been missing.

Three brand-new singletrack trails will weave into the park network, designed with varying levels of difficulty so that every rider can find their challenge. On top of that, the much-loved Won’t Die trail is being upgraded into a sanctioned green, offering a safe and accessible entry point for beginners and families while still preserving the spirit of the original trail.

Skills Park & Pump Track The foundation work for the skills area and pump track is underway, laying out the zones that will soon become learning and progression hubs. The skills park will feature technical challenges like skinnies, rock features, and small drops, designed for riders to practice and progress in a safe environment. Meanwhile, the pump track — scheduled for full build-out and asphalt surfacing in spring 2026 — will be Edmonton’s first paved pump track, built to international standards and offering a fun, all-ages riding experience.
