Edmonton Bike Park Grand Opening Moving to Spring 2027

It has been a long, wet and challenging construction season at the Edmonton Bike Park.

After reviewing the work still remaining, the impact of this summer’s weather, and what can realistically be completed before the end of the riding season, we have made the decision to move the official Edmonton Bike Park Grand Opening to spring 2027, likely in late May or early June.

While we know everyone is excited to see the entire park finished — we are too — we believe this is the right decision for the project and for Edmonton’s mountain bike community.

More Than Seven Weeks Lost to Weather

When we first moved the Grand Opening from July to September, we hoped the weather would turn around and give our contractors and volunteers the opportunity to catch up.

Unfortunately, that really hasn’t happened.

Repeated rainfall, saturated soils and the drying time required before equipment and volunteers can safely get back onto the site have now resulted in more than seven weeks of construction delays.

Anyone who has spent time on Edmonton’s trails this summer knows just how unusual the conditions have been.

Despite those challenges, an enormous amount of work has continued behind the scenes and across the site. The asphalt pump track has taken shape, significant work has been completed on the flow trails, skills features are being built and installed, and volunteers and contractors continue to push the project forward whenever conditions allow.

But there comes a point where trying to make up seven weeks of lost construction time means rushing the work.

We don’t want to do that.

We’d Rather Build It Right Than Build It Fast

The Edmonton Bike Park is something the community has worked toward for years.

There is little value in getting this close to the finish line and then compromising the quality of the final product simply so everything can be declared finished by a particular date.

Moving the Grand Opening to spring gives our contractors, volunteers and project team the time they need to complete the remaining trails, features and finishing work properly.

That means a better-built park, a better riding experience and a better long-term result for Edmonton.

After everything that has gone into making this project happen, that matters more than meeting an arbitrary event date.

You Won’t Have to Wait Until Spring to Ride

Moving the Grand Opening does not mean we're keeping the completed parts of the bike park behind fences until next year.

Quite the opposite.

As individual trails, features and areas are completed, inspected and ready to ride, we will open them to the public.

We took the same approach with the first two flow trails late last season, and we'll continue doing that as construction progresses.

So keep watching.

You may see new trails, features and sections of the park become available well before the official Grand Opening.

When something is ready to ride, we want you riding it.

More Time to Build the Grand Opening We Want

There is another upside to moving the event to spring: we now have more time to turn the Grand Opening into the celebration this project deserves.

The Edmonton Bike Park exists because an enormous number of people and organizations came together to make it happen.

Thousands of volunteer hours. Contractors. Sponsors. Community partners. City staff. Donors. Local businesses. Trail builders. Riders. Families. And years of advocacy from people who believed Edmonton should have a purpose-built mountain bike facility.

We want the Grand Opening to celebrate all of that.

With additional planning time, we can build an event that properly showcases the finished park and gives Edmonton's mountain bike community a chance to come together and celebrate what we've accomplished.

And we're starting to think beyond just one day.

Our hope is that the inaugural Grand Opening could become the beginning of an annual Edmonton mountain bike celebration at the Bike Park — bringing riders, families, local businesses, clubs, organizations and the wider trail community together each year.

There will be much more to share about that in the months ahead.

The Work Continues

For now, the focus remains on finishing the Edmonton Bike Park.

Construction will continue as conditions allow.

Volunteer opportunities will continue to be posted.

Features will continue to take shape.

And when parts of the park are finished and ready to safely open, we'll open them.
